This is the main thing we want you to know:
God is gracious and merciful, and He gives new life by His power and grace. Because of our sin, we do not naturally seek Him, but God lovingly takes the initiative to save sinners and bring them into fellowship with Himself.
That is why we worship Jesus Christ. He is the reason First Baptist exists. We gather to worship and praise Him and to learn from God’s Word, the Bible, because God has revealed Himself and His saving purposes through it.
Jesus was not merely an ordinary man. The Bible teaches that He was born of a virgin by the power of the Holy Spirit, without a human father. This happened so that He would be born without sin and fully qualified to be our Savior.
Jesus is truly human and truly God. Scripture tells us that “in Him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily” (Colossians 2:9). Only someone who is both God and man could accomplish the salvation we need.
This matters because sin has separated us from God. Sin is anything that falls short of God’s perfect holiness. The Bible says, “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23), and that “the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23). This death is not only physical but also spiritual—eternal separation from God. We are unable, on our own, to fix what sin has broken or to earn God’s forgiveness.
But God, rich in mercy, chose to save sinners by His grace. In love, He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to live a perfectly obedient life, to die on the cross as a substitute for sinners, and to rise again from the dead, defeating sin and death once and for all.
Salvation is God’s gift. He forgives sins and gives new life to all whom He brings to repentance and faith. We are saved not by our works, but by trusting in Jesus Christ alone, who said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6).
If God is drawing you to see your need for Christ, turn from your sin and trust in Jesus alone for salvation. If you would like to speak with us, we would be glad to pray with you and help you grow in the new life God gives through Jesus Christ.
